In our week long trip out to the San Francisco bay area last week (Jason’s old stomping ground) we managed to pay not 1 but 2 visits to Juan’s Place. Juan’s is a classic Mexican restaurant, with great food, enormous portions (think burritos as big as your head), and amazingly friendly staff. While we couldn’t find the restaurant’s site, (don’t think they have one), Juan’s Place has positive reviews on every site we looked at. It’s located at 941 Carleton Street in Berkeley, CA, around the corner from the famed Fantasy Studios. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Neil Young, Buzzcocks, Wilco, Bowie, Dexter Gordon, and Stevie Wonder have all recorded there (to name but a few)…. wonder if they ever ate at Juan’s.
We had the great luck of meeting the man himself, Juan. He started the restaurant many moons ago and has a long family line of employees.
We give it 4 stars too, so swing by if you are in the east bay and HUNGRY (in ALL CAPS).
